All the focus was on Liverpool’s new boss Jurgen Klopp and his high-energy style of football, but Tottenham were able to withstand waves of onslaughts and rode a few of their own in an enticing 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The Reds started brightly and should have taken the lead through Divock Origi who smacked the crossbar from a close-range header. The Belgian began Klopp’s regime up front due to Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge all being absent through injury and the former Lille striker showed flashes of magic but could not beat a determined Hugo Lloris.

Spurs were clinical against Manchester City prior to the international break, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side was unable to replicate that form in front of goal as both Harry Kane and Clinton N’jie in particular were repelled by Simon Mignolet. The injury toll at Tottenham also intensified as Nacer Chadli was forced off with what appeared to be an ankle injury in the first half.
