Sturridge to bolster Reds attack
Rodgers needed some good news in the forward department after the double blow of losing Christian Benteke to a hamstring injury and Roberto Firmino with a suspected cracked bone in his back. In Sturridge they finally have the quality which shone so brightly in partnership with Luis Suarez before his departure to Barcelona.
His skill, pace and clinical finishing haunted the Villa defence all afternoon, and the big question mark now is whether they can keep him fit for a sustained period of time. Injuries have plagued the Birmingham-born forward for much of his early career, and with Benteke prone to injuries too, the Liverpool medical staff may have their work cut out to keep Rodgers’ best attacking players on the pitch at the same time.
