Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Calum Chambers on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Chambers has struggled for playing time this season, having made a shock move to North London in the summer of 2014 where he produced a number of strong performances.

The versatile 21-year-old started the Gunners’ first Premier League game of the season alongside fellow youngster Rob Holding, as they fell 4-3 to Liverpool.

The former Southampton man will add some level of international experience to the Boro squad having won three senior England caps.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka was pleased to have Chambers on board for the rest of the season.

“I’m really pleased, it’s a position where we’ve been working towards bringing the right player in,” Karanka told mfc.co.uk.

“We haven’t been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he’s going to help us a lot.”

“I’d like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That’s important and we’re looking forward to working with him.

Boro fans may get the chance to see their latest signing when they host Crystal Palace on September 11, as Premier League football returns following the international break.
