Bastian Schweinsteiger has refused to leave Manchester United, leaving Jose Mourinho furious, as reported by the Daily Star.

Despite being told he isn’t a part of Mourinho’s plans, the German wants to complete the remaining two years of his contract, whether he’s playing or not.

Portuguese outfit, Sporting Lisbon is keen to bring the midfielder to Portugal. According to the Daily Star, United have offered to pay part of his £190,000-a-week contract in Portugal.

The 32-year-old still has his sights set on staying at Old Trafford, and has made it clear to Mourinho. Schweinsteiger thinks he can persuade the Portuguese master to include him in his plans despite the fact that he has already axed him from the first team squad. The United boss would prefer to give younger players an opportunity to step up.

Schweinsteiger told the Daily Star: “The transfer window is closed in the USA so I’m not going anywhere.

“It’s my dream still to play for Manchester United and if I get a fair chance, I believe in it. The USA is certainly an option, should it come to that.”

In a press conference before a farewell game for Germany this week, the World Cup winner stated it would be “his absolute dream” to continue playing at Manchester United.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow, it is likely Schweinsteiger will stay put for now.
