Central Coast Mariners defender Storm Roux is looking forward to the new challenges of 2016-17.

A horrific injury suffered in a February match against Melbourne City saw the 23-year-old break his fibula, tear ligaments in his ankle and dislocate his shoulder when trying to block an opposition shot on goal.

The three-year Gosford veteran is nearly at the end of a long recovery process though, claiming he is ready to come straight back into A-League action.

“It was tough, obviously. It was just a freak accident. My foot got caught underneath. It probably won’t happen again, fingers crossed, to anyone in the A-League,” said Roux in an interview with the Dominion Post.

“After the leg surgery I had my shoulder surgery so I wasn’t leaving the house. I was waiting to recover until I could eventually use crutches and not only are you doing rehab on your shoulder you are doing leg exercises and it took a lot longer to get back into training.

“I’m over it now though, which is the main thing. I’m fit and I feel ready to play.

“I’ve played a 60 minute game and a 70 minute game so far, so all things felt real good and I’m just buzzing to go out there and keep playing.

“I felt a lot better than I thought I would. I thought it would nag me a little bit, or on the mental side I’d be scared to go into challenges, but I’ve got all that out the way now.”

Roux will hope to feature when the Mariners will face the Wellington Phoenix on the 24th of September in a preseason friendly.
