Hagi Gligor (Perth Glory)

Perth Glory midfielder Hagi Gligor, signed from Sydney FC over the offseason, was born to play football, named after Romania’s greater ever footballer Gheorghe Hagi. Gligor was a strong performer for Sydney FC’s youth team and was awarded his first senior contract at the end of the 2011-12 A-League campaign. Gligor was nominated for National Youth League Player of the Year for the 2011-12 season and following his exploits at youth level, debuted as a 17-year-old in the 2012-13 season.

He found it difficult to crack the experienced Sydney midfield, managing only 11 starts in three seasons and just one in the 2014-15 season as Sydney progressed to the grand final. Gligor arrives at the Glory after the Western Australian side had its 2014-15 season rocked by a salary cap breach which has seen nine departures over the offseason. Gligor, an Australian under-23 international, has the tools needed to make an impact in the A-League.

Though diminutive in stature, Gligor is accomplished on the ball and possesses a solid range of passing coupled with vision beyond his 20 years. Following a full preseason, 2015-16 looms as the time for Gligor to solidify himself at senior level.
