Must win games

Games like this are a must win for Tottenham if they are to keep up the chase to Manchester City and Leicester at the top. Whether Leicester can remain near the summit is yet to be seen, but Spurs definitely need to keep close to the likes of Manchester United, City and Arsenal if they want to leapfrog them to the top. This game may feel like a missed opportunity for the team, especially with Arsenal and the Foxes both winning on Saturday.

James McLean battle with Kyle Walker interesting

Walker had his hands full on the left-hand side with West Brom’s McLean. Walker pulled-off an outstanding challenge to stop the attacker in his tracks, after his rampant run towards the Tottenham goal on the half-hour mark. McLean went on to score his first goal for West Brom in the 38th minute, with a bullet of a header to bring the teams level. The 26-year-old was full of confidence at home, regularly taking on opposition defenders.

Spurs need to keep their cool

The away side appeared rattled in the later stages of the match, as they could not get into a proper rhythm and it was the Baggies who were producing most of the shots that were keeping Lloris busy. Danny Rose in particular was riled up a couple of times in the Tottenham defence, resulting in a scuffle being split up by the referee. The game produced foul after foul and Johnathan Moss did well to keep the yellow card in his pocket, until Mousa Dembele was booked for a challenge on McLean. This allowed the game to flow with both sides looking to gain an edge, rather than having to stutter back-and-forth due to constant interventions by the official.
