Spurs make statement against Arsenal.

There was something particularly impressive in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal. For once in a game at the Emirates, they did not succumb to the home side’s inevitable early pressure. For the opening 10 minutes, it did not seem like this would be the case as Arsenal carved through Mauricio Pochettino’s charges. They weathered that storm and at the end of game, could consider themselves unfortunate not to be leaving with three points. After Harry Kane’s opener, Spurs were guilty of not extending their lead with a number of good chances and paid the price when substitute Kieran Gibbs equalized for Arsenal. Finally the team looks like something close to a Pochettino setup and it is hard remembering a better chance than this, considering Chelsea’s malaise, to finish in the top four.

Fatigue throughout Arsenal and Tottenham shows on players.

With this being their third-game each in a week and nine days respectively, it was perhaps understandable when seeing the fatigue that plagued the pitch in the North London Derby between the two teams. Mauricio Pochettino’s team had played on Monday evening against Aston Villa and played a hard game against Belgian outfit Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday, compared to Arsenal’s games on Saturday and Wednesday and still looked fitter than the Gunners. Arsene Wenger’s team 5-0 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich probably had a psychological effect on them here and it was telling that the goal they conceded was down the left-flank where they had shipped all of their goals in mid-week. The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Carzola look especially drained and although Spurs tired towards the end, their fitness regime made them fresher for this game then the Gunners if not fully.
