Real Madrid

Keylor Navas – 6: The Costa Rican would have been expected to be much busier but was barely tested until second-half stoppage time when he had to be on his toes to deny De Bruyne’s fee-kick.

Dani Carvajal– 5: Did not shy away from moving up the pitch and got a couple of good crosses in as well. Had little to do defensively.

Sergio Ramos– 7: Had a tough ask of keeping Aguero quiet and the Madrid captain stuck to his task. Arguably should have got on the scoresheet after being allowed a lot of space in the box but his tame header was a comfortable save for the goalkeeper.

Pepe – 6: Like Ramos the Portuguese put in a top notch defensive performance although he should have definitely given his side the lead when he volleyed a fantastic chance straight at Hart, from inside the six-yard box,

Marcelo – 7: In the absence of Ronaldo, the Brazilian fulback was dominant down the left-hand flank, doing a good job defensively as well as in attack.

Luka Modric – 6: Pushed up into a more attacking position as Casemiro sat back with Kroos. Had a few strikes at goal, but nothing was on target from the Croatian.

Toni Kroos – 6.5: The German was kept reasonably subdued by Fernando and Fernandinho but was efficient and accurate while on set-play duty.

Casemiro – 6 –: Solid performance in the middle of the park from the young Brazilian.

Gareth Bale – 7: Was the biggest threat for the away side. Got into good positions and had sight of Hart’s goal on a few occasions but the Welsh international is usually capable of so much better.

Lucas Vasquez – 5: Combined well with Bale and Jese in the second half, although he did not test Hart out much. Credit to the youngster who tracked back whenever City were on the counter.

Karim Benzema –5: Was clearly unfit and was not very involved in play. Substituted before the start of the second half with a possible injury concern.

Substitutes

Jese – 6: Definitely provided more spark up front than Benzema did and came very close as his header just bounced off the top the bar and out.

Isco – N/A: Came on with only a few minutes to play.
