VfB Stuttgart
Przemyslaw Tyton – 3: The Swabian goalkeeper had a busy night and was not able to step up to the challenge. Had his stake in the first and fourth goals.
Timo Baumgartl – 4: Baumgartl was by no means the weakest link in the defensive chain, but just as overwhelmed by BVB’s attacking waves as the rest.
Emiliano Insua – 4: Argentinian Insua attempted a couple of decent runs on his side, was overall outclassed by the BVB attack though.
Georg Niedermeier – 3: Dismal effort from the tall defender, who too appeared without a chance against Aubameyang and co. Enabled the 2-0, his own goal encapsulated his display.
Daniel Schwaab – 5: Employed in a novel position, Schwaab did a decent job at keeping German superstar Reus at bay.
Christian Gentner – 4: VfB’s skipper started and remained lacklustre throughout the entire 90 minutes. Little physical presence and the timing seemed off.
Daniel Didavi – 6: Stuttgart’s only hope to survive the impending relegation battle – as it stands right now. Scored and occasionally troubled Dortmund’s defence.
Filip Kostic – 5: Diligent, yet ineffective. Set the scene leading to Stuttgart’s only goal.
Lukas Rupp – 4: The former Paderborn man had difficulties squaring off against the big names. Ran lots, but physically poor.
Alexandru Maxim – 3: Inconspicuous at best. Did not contribute anything notable.
Timo Werner – 5: The young Germany international had a couple of decent moments, looked one of the more dangerous offensive players next to Didavi.
Substitutes
Robbie Kruse – 4: The Aussie was thrown into the match with 20 minutes left and tried a couple of good runs, but was caught offside in most of them.
