Atlético Madrid
Jan Oblak – 7: While Oblak was unlucky to concede a goal, the young goalkeeper was responsible for keeping Atléti in the match particularly in the first half with key saves against Aduriz and Beñat.
Juanfran – 6: Less attacking display than normal for the right-back but was busy in dealing with Athletic’s tactics of switching play to his side of the pitch. A solid performance.
José Giménez – 5.5: Did not protect Oblak enough with the in-form Aduriz having numerous chances to score. Was lucky to see only one goal go in the back of the net.
Diego Godín – 5.5: Alongside Giménez, the experienced shotstopper should have done better in eliminating chances for the away side with Athletic finding it easy to find space to shoot on target.
Filipe Luís – 5.5: Was nowhere to be seen for Laporte’s opening goal which came from his left side.
Koke – 6.5: The Spanish playmaker provided the key assist for the important equalising goal from a corner. Had an excellent late chance to double Atléti’s lead but wasted it.
Gabi – 5.5: The captain was unaware of Laporte unmarked behind him and it proved costly as the centre-back took advantage. A tough-tackling display from thereafter, with a typical yellow card to follow.
Saúl Ñíguez – 7: Has cemented himself impressively, scoring in key fixtures that have made an enormous contribution. Another excellent all-round performance that raises questions over the long term future of veteran Tiago’s place in the starting XI.
Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco – 5: A quiet night for the tricky winger who had no significant impact on the game. Replaced early on in the second half.
Antoine Griezmann – 7.5: An excellent strike that sealed a dramatic comeback, the Frenchman continued his goalscoring form and again showed his world-class talents.
Luciano Vietto – 6: Ran hard up front but there was no goal today for the in-form striker. Replaced in the 61st minute for Fernando Torres.
Substitutions
Ángel Correa – 6: Replaced the ineffective Carrasco and provided the assist that led to the winning goal, showing excellent vision to see Griezmann in space.
Fernando Torres – 6: Came on for the remaining 30 minutes and worked hard to create space for Griezmann.
Stefan Savić – N/A: Replaced the goalscoring hero late on to see out the victory.
