Mitrovic scores first Newcastle goal

It may not seem appropriate to highlight a positive for Newcastle out of this match, but a first league strike for the passionate Mitrovic is worth celebrating if nothing else. One thing that has been evident of the Serbian so far is (other than his fiery temper) that he plays with his heart on his sleeve and will give everything for the shirt, illustrated by the fact that he was still getting stuck in even with the game well out of Newcastle’s reach. The result was obviously disastrous for the Toon but Mitrovic can be pleased on a personal level, although it seems a certain other striker in this match will be on the back pages tomorrow.

Where do both teams go from here?

Even this early in the season, a rout like this can have a monumental impact about how both teams approach the rest of the campaign, or in the short-term, the next month.

For City, this will be the confidence boost they needed after a little stutter over the last two weeks. In the second half, they showed the form they did in the first few matches this season which earned them the tag of title favourites.

As for Newcastle, one has to worry about their survival prospects even with less than a quarter of the season played. They are now more than a game from safety, without a win and the confidence blow that this could have on the team can not be underestimated. It would be in the Magpies’ best interest to not let this result get to their heads, although considering what transpired in those 15 minutes, that may be easier said than done.
