Villarreal
Alphonse Areola – 9: The best player on the park and the reason his side came away with a draw. Made some top quality saves.
Mario Gaspar – 7: Dictated the threat of Nolito and while he was not able to get forward often, it did not take away from his performace.
Eric Bailly – 7: Tough tackling throughout, performances like this could see him with more starts.
Victor Ruiz – 7.5; Led this team from the centre of defence. Marked well and marshalled even better.
Antonio Rukavina – 6.5: Smart in the tackle but did not have to deal with as much on his wing.
Denis Suarez – 5: Very quiet and could not seem to get the better of either full-back.
Manu Trigueros – 6: Was not able to show the best side of his game going forward but impressed defensively. Substituted with 25 minutes remaining.
Tomas Pina – 6.5: The hardworking defensive midfielder did everything expected of him but lacks inventiveness to get his team forward.
Nahuel Leiva – 5: Had to work harder in defence than he could in attack but did not shine. Replaced on 65 minutes.
Leo Baptistao – 4: Did not have any impact going forward and was overshadowed by his striking partner. Withdrawn on 63 minutes.
Cedric Bakambu – 6: Always offering an outlet ball due to his pace. Could not convert the chances he conjured up.
Substitutes
Samu Castillejo – 4: Did little of note in more than half an hour on the pitch.
Adrian Lopez – 3: Did even less of note.
