The kids are alright

This game might have come at a bad time for City, who were forced to field a young side in a game with such high stakes.

Jacob Melling, Steve Kuzmanovski, Wade Dekker and the goalscorer, Millar, gave John van’t Schip’s side an inexperienced feel, but youthful exuberance eclipsed any nervousness that would have been present.

Still only 20-years-old, Garuccio’s unfortunate own-goal stunted the momentum that the youth helped to grow and despite the eventual 3-1 scoreline, City supporters will be encouraged after what was a spirited performance.

Chances were created, the two most notable falling to the feet of Aaron Mooy and the aforementioned Kuzmanovski, but on the night City were made to pay. All things considered, this was an honourable loss, not that it would provide any consolation to a team looking for its first piece of silverware
