Arsenal a bigger threat with Giroud up top

Arsenal’s two attacking focal points, Giroud and Theo Walcott, are difficult to compare and any comparison would hardly do either player or their attributes justice. Vastly different players, they offer Arsene Wenger room to move in a tactical sense.

This was Giroud’s first start in six matches, his last coming against Liverpool on matchday three. Arsenal looked a much tougher beast to handle with the Frenchman leading the line, matching John Stones and Phil Jagielka (until his 52nd minute substitution through injury) in the physical stakes.

He was afforded some assistance by a smart Ozil ball and second-guessing from Howard, but Giroud hit the scoresheet with a close-range header for his fifth goal of the season and made it five in five matches against Everton. He would also strike the crossbar in the 68th minute with Howard beaten.

Arsenal face a tricky trip to the Liberty Stadium next up and Giroud looks favourite to lead the line against the sizeable duo of Ashley Williams and Federico Fernandez.
