Swansea (4-2-3-1)

Lukasz Fabianski – 6: Could do nothing to prevent the Villa goal and otherwise had a quiet afternoon.

Kyle Naughton – 6.5: Sublime cross for the Swansea winner and looked to get forward throughout to contribute to attacks.

Ashley Williams – 6.5: Had the better of Gestede all afternoon and will surely face stiffer challenges this season.

Ferderico Fernandez – 5.5: Was perhaps lucky to escape punishment for squaring up to Villa captain Richards but otherwise an uneventful game.

Neil Taylor – 6: Didn’t do too much wrong but caught dreadfully out-of-position for the opening goal.

Ki Sung-Yeung – 6: Gave away the ball several times but tried to move the ball forward quickly when in possession.

Jonjo Shelvey – 6.5: Had a couple of long-range efforts but not his usual imposing presence in the middle of the park.

Andre Ayew – 8: Man of the match. Was a threat throughout and provided the killer touch in the closing stages by being in the right place at the right time.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7: Provided a touch of class right when Swansea needed it. His superb free-kick was arguably the turning point.

Jefferson Montero – 5: Replaced on 76 minutes after failing to impose himself on the game.

Bafetimbi Gomis – 5: Looks completely out-of-sorts at the moment and desperately needs a goal to boost his ailing confidence.
