The Eagles have flair down the flanks in abundance, but at the moment they lack someone to stick the ball in the net. Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha are pleasing on the eye, the problem is they have only contributed three goals between them this season. This issue was made even more apparent as Yohan Cabaye’s influence on the match was negligible, his usual deft touch from any set-piece situation missing against the Black Cats.

Wickham has failed to live up to his billing, Patrick Bamford has barely played and the longer Dwight Gayle is out injured, the more Pardew will consider making a change in January.
