Bayern Muncich moved eight points clear ahead of Dortmund in the Bundesliga table after defeating a much improved Schalke at the Veltins-Arena.

FC Shalke welcomed back their captain Benedikt Howedes for this important clash and André Breitenreiter’s men should not be too disappointed with the result, as the opening 45 minutes provided hope for the home faithful. Goals came from David Alaba (Although it was confirmed as an own goal to to Leon Goretzka) on the ninth minute, before Schalke wonderkid Max Meyer provided the equaliser.

In the second-half Bayern controlled the game though and took the lead when Javi Martinez put away an Ajern Robben cross, while Thomas Muller put the icing on the cake in the final moments.

Schalke had a great fist-half

The Schalke fans should not take this defeat to heart, nobody likes losing 3-1, but there was much to like about the home team in the opening 45 minutes. They did concede early on through Alaba’s shot which ultimately ended in Goretzka’s own goal, but it did not dent their confidence whatsoever. They then looked towards youth, when on the Germany’s star youngster Max Meyer levelled things up in the 17th minute, albeit from a great run by Leroy Sane who controlled the counter-attack. Great confidence was gained through this goal, the Royal Blues poked holes through the Bayern defense and if they want to move up in the Bundesliga table, they should look to their counter-attack, which could be dangerous towards the end of the season.
