Fernandez and Sarpong fail to fire for their respective sides

The A-League’s two former NAC Breda players lined up as strikers for opposing teams, and both were relatively ineffective in this game as Fernandez and Sarpong laboured while their other less vaunted teammates stepped up. With Sarpong substituted on the 60-minute mark, his pedigree has been blunted by lack of match fitness  and it is clear he is lacking sharpness and needs more game time. Fernandez’s most notable contribution in the first half was that he received the game’s first yellow card for a foul on Lia after giving a penalty away. He too was substituted five minutes after Sarpong in the 65th minute after another frustrating game for the Glory.

Garcia off, Lia breaks goalscoring drought

Much like round one, the Phoenix finished a game against 10 men. This time it was the Glory skipper Garcia who received his marching orders. Following the dismissal, Vince Lia popped up to score his first goal in four and a half years to secure all three points, an unlikely source if there ever was one.
