Roma made it three wins in a row in Serie A with a 3-1 victory over Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico.
After a cagey first half, the Giallorossi raced to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Miralem Pjanic, Daniele De Rossi and Mohamed Salah. Empoli managed a consolation through Marcel Buchel, but it was too little too late as Roma climbed up to second in Serie A.
AS Roma
Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5: Did not have a lot to do but was solid when called upon. He had no chance with Empoli’s late goal.
Lucas Digne – 7: Looked threatening going forward and did well in defence when called upon. Continued his promising start to his Giallorossi career.
Leandro Castan – 6: It was his first start in nearly a year and it showed. Looked a little bit off the pace but will get better.
Vasilis Torosidis – 6.5: Was able to deal with Empoli’s wide men when needed but did not offer the same attacking threat as Digne.
Kostas Manolas – 7: Easily Roma’s best defensive player. Won nearly every ball and looked like he could become a real leader at the back for Rudi Garcia.
Miralem Pjanic – 8: Another superb performance from Pjanic. He scored an incredible free kick to get Roma going and played some beautiful balls to the Roma forwards. Best player on the pitch and by a distance.
Daniele De Rossi – 7: In what was his 500th appearance, De Rossi put in a good display. He scored the side’s second from a corner and overall, dominated the midfield.
Alessandro Florenzi – 6.5: Florenzi was unable to hit the heights he has done in recent weeks but at the same time did not put a foot wrong.
Mohamed Salah – 7.5: The Egyptian winger continued his impressive start to life at the Olimpico with a good performance. His paced troubled the Empoli defence all game and he rounded off the match with a lovely finish.
Iago Falque – 6: Roma’s worst player on the day. He did not add anything to the Giallorossi forward line and was hooked for Radja Nainggolan before the end.
Gervinho – 7: After his double against Palermo before the international break, Gervinho once again showed his class. His direct style caused problems for Empoli although his finishing could have been better.
Substitutes
Radja Nainggolan – 7: Came on in the second half and helped Roma see out the game. Rested ahead of the big Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Salih Ucan – 6.5: Entered proceeding with little time on the clock and was unable to make an impact.
