Manchester City let a two goal lead slip away but came back to win 4-2 against Swansea City  at the Liberty Stadium overnight.

Yaya Toure and James Milner gave City a two goal advantage in the first half and Swansea showed their character when they equalised with goals on either side of the half-time whistle from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis, respectively. But it was the former champions who walked away victors, as Toure completed his brace and former Swansea man Wilfried Bony wrapped things up in stoppage time to make it four for City.

Powerhouse performance from Yaya Toure

Toure displayed a memorable performance at Liberty stadium, which saw him score two absolute thunder bolt goals. He opened the proceedings for City when he hammered a strike in from the edge of the 18-yard-area and even though Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski got a hand to it, it was not enough to keep the ball shot out and a slight deflection of a Swansea defender did not help either.

Toure got his second with another powerful shot from the edge of the area. Yet again, Fabianski got a hand to it but could not keep out the venomous shot. Toure’s brace saw him reach ten league goals this season and he has now scored three against the Welsh outfit this season itself.

Uncertainty in the City defence

City’s defence was once again broken down as the hosts managed to score two and equalise after the break. In the absence of skipper, Vincent Kompany, city’s central-defensive duo of Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Managala seemed like they were improving after keeping three clean sheets in their previous four matches. But the pair failed to prevent Gary Monk’s side from scoring. For the second goal, Bafetimbi Gomis got between the two and got his strike away without being challenged. Although the Frenchman did very well to score his fifth league goal of the season, City’s central-defensive pair should have done much better. Pellegrini will definitely look to improve in the centre-back area when the transfer window opens.

Bony scores on his return to Liberty

Bony scored only his second goal for City since his arrival from the Swans in January in stoppage time. It was his 11th league goal of the season, having previously scored nine for his former employees in the first-half of the campaign. Bony paid respect to Swansea and did not celebrate after he scored, but he still has not cemented his place in the City team and he will surely be looking forward to next season, to hope and find regular fist team action.

Hart saves City the blushes again

Joe Hart has been in formidable form for City, especially in the second-half of the season. He continues to bail his defence out by producing some excellent stops, although he did let in two, there was nothing he could do to stop either of them. Hart will be hopeful of a stronger defensive performance come next season.

With the win over Swansea, City look set to hold on to the second position in the league, after Arsenal drew with Manchester United later in the day. Even a point on the final day of the season against Southampton will guarantee that the Sky Blues finish the season second behind Chelsea.
