Liverpool held in Klopp’s opening game

Jurgen Klopp began life at his new job with a 0-0 draw against Tottenham, yet he and his side can be quietly thankful that it ended this way. After dominating the opening half-hour, Spurs began to establish control over the game. Had it not been for a couple of outstanding saves from Simon Mignolet, Mauricio Pochettino’s side may have been out of sight. The positive of course is the clean-sheet, something we saw so little of under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rogers. However, with Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures looking rough, it is crucial Klopp’s men adapt quickly to his philosophy.

Dark clouds still surround Chelsea despite win

After a comfortable 2-0 win over strugglers Aston Villa, where some of the characteristics of the old Chelsea were on display, Jose Mourinho was asked a question in his post-match press conference – an inevitable one of course, as to why his best player, Eden Hazard did not play. Rather than simply say he was resting Hazard, for maybe say the mid-week fixture against Dynamo Kiev, Mourinho elaborated. In his brutally honest evaluation of his reasoning behind the decision, the manager said the Belgian’s defensive deficiencies saw him left out, which will only bring more questions. Ironically the player that sources say Mourinho bases his attacking instructions off does not have a free role after all. This certainly seems reminiscent of Juan Mata’s ordeal all those months ago.
