Liverpool put in one of their best displays of the season to crush Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad on Sunday morning in the English Premier League.

It was razzle dazzle from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino who both scored and pressured Eliaquim Mangala to put one in his own net in a rampant first half. City managed to get a goal back just before the interval through Sergio Aguero, but the Reds were too good for the Sky Blues and Martin Skrtel sealed the victory with a stunner.

Klopp’s Liverpool

There have been glimpses against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Southampton, but it just clicked against Manchester City. That was the Klopp way.

Liverpool worked extremely hard off the ball to close the space and limit City’s ballplayers’ room and that  rendered the home side useless. City struggled to mount a threatening attack or find any consistency, other than Sergio Aguero’s snap-shot.

What Manuel Pellegrini’s side was doing instead was giving the ball away cheaply, whether it be from a misdirected pass or tackle from a Liverpool player. A lot of the Reds’ chances came from a turnover in City’s half, which is the premise of Klopp’s style. Trap and contain them high, win the ball high, take the eventual opportunity at goal. Simple as one, two, three.
