After crashing out of the Europa League in disastrous circumstances against Astra Giurgiu, West Ham supporters may still have something to cheer about with news that a highly coveted target is expected to put pen to paper.

Juventus and Italy striker Simone Zaza is set to undergo a medical with the Hammers according to the Guardian.

West Ham have reportedly agreed a £24 million deal with Juventus as well as agreeing personal terms with the player, who will undergo his medical on Friday.

The deal is set to surpass the £20 million fee recently paid for Andre Ayew from Swansea, and will once again break the club transfer record.

It appears the Hammers have finally got their long-term target after a number of approaches during the summer window.

Negotiations with the reigning champions were sped up earlier in the week by co-chairman David Sullivan following the news that fellow forward Andy Carroll had suffered yet another injury, this time to miss up to six weeks.

“I don’t know the details, but we were in talks and it was quite close, I would love it to happen,” said Slaven Bilic following his side’s exit from the Europa League.

The 25-year-old only joined the Old Lady last summer in a deal worth £18 million, scoring five times in 19 appearances.
