A change of fortune in Manchester

Securing victory at home see’s Manchester secure their first points in this years Champions League, giving themselves every chance at topping the group with the remaining matches. A real turn around in performance since a defeat to PSV in their last match, perhaps most promising was the way in witch almost all their attacking players have seemed to gel over the last month and are showing the amount of pressure they can put opposition defences under. The only disappointment would be captain Wayne Rooney, who missed an absolute sitter and was held quiet by the german team’s defence.

Defensive woes still haunt Wolves

From a team who held the faced paced attacking threats of CSKA goalless to one that conceded five goals in 15 minutes to Robert Lewandowski, the fall from grace for Wolfsburg’s defensive team was a steep indeed. Several times the Wolves were caught out by Manchester’s wingers and allowed the ball to be played in-behind. Without Luiz Gustavo to shield his Brazilian compatriots Dante and Naldo, the majority of work was left to Josuha Guilavogui, who himself lacks European experience. Dieter Hecking might be best giving his back four a bit of a rotation in their upcoming Bundesliga fixture, in the hope they can be just that bit more secure.
