In a pulsating game, the Sky Blues emerged as winners over the Wanderers once again, in possibly the last Sydney Derby at Pirtek Stadium.

Here are the best performers on the night.

Jacques Faty (Sydney FC) – The French-born Senegalese defender was a rock in defence, repelling an incisive Western Sydney front three despite the Wanderers’ dominance of possession and the creativity of Romeo Castelen. The 31-year-old also chimed in with the Sky Blues’ opening goal, putting his team ahead before Dario Vidosic’s equaliser and Shane Smeltz’s winner.

Worst performers of the Sydney Derby

Romeo Castelen (Western Sydney Wanderers) – In excellent form leading into this match, the Dutchman took some time to warm to the pressure of the derby, but found an open Dario Vidosic for the Wanderers’ equaliser in the 58th minute, while Seb Ryall could only watch on. The former Feyenoord winger was a constant threat in the second half, his passes cutting through Sydney FC’s back four.

Matt Jurman (Sydney FC) – After a solid first half in which Jurman repelled several forays into attack by the Wanderers, the 26-year-old pressed further up the ground in the second half and assisted substitute Shane Smeltz’s 90th-minute winner. A colossal performance alongside veteran Jacques Faty.

Honourable mentions – Scott Jamieson, Dario Vidosic, Rhyan Grant
