Sydney FC have claimed bragging rights in the eleventh Sydney derby, defeating the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 at Pirtek Stadium.
While the Wanderers dominated possession in the opening section of the match it was the Sky Blues who got themselves on the scoreboard first.
Jacques Faty found the back of the net in the 22nd minute, heading it home after Seb Ryall knocked it back into the middle of the box, for his first goal of the season and only his second for Sydney FC.
Just before the hour mark the Wanderers were able to restore parity via a brilliant curling effort from Dario Vidosic. The home side’s marquee man was left all alone on the edge of the box and Vedran Janjetolvic could do nothing to stop it.
The match was not decided until the death with Shane Smeltz claiming all three points for the Sky Blues with a stinging strike on the half volley from 12 yards out in the 90th minute.
The victory sees Sydney rise to third on the ladder and extends their dominance in this derby fixture to six games unbeaten and three wins on the trot

Great finish by Vidosic. He doesn't always show his sublime talent but it was on display there #SydneyDerby

2 big concerns for WSW on top of losing derby streak – Poppa's subs & giving up two goals in very cheap/uncharacteristic ways. #SydneyDerby
