Under pressure

Most people were shocked to hear Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool. One person who may be anxious is Rudi Garcia. Both owned by Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool and Roma are certainly linked. In the week when, after Roma’s poor performance in Belarus against BATE Borisov in the Champions League, #Garciaout was trending on Twitter and the gaffer will be fully aware of the pressure he is under.

The Boston-based sports group has shown it can be ruthless in sacking managers who, despite recent success, at least relative to immediately before they joined the club, were under performing. The same can be said of Garcia. After finishing second in the last two seasons to Juventus, many, including the owners, will be hoping it is third time lucky this year, especially given the Bianconeri‘s poor start to the season. Added to this, Roma’s current fourth-place standing in their Champions League group and things begin to unravel. Garcia may not have as much time as his thinks to build his Roman Empire, at least if events in Liverpool are anything to go by.
