Roma bounced back from an embarrassing defeat in the Champions League in midweek to beat Palermo 4-2 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Sunday in Serie A.

Goals from Miralem Pjanic, Alessandro Florenzi and a Gervinho double saw the Giallorossi ease past Palermo, who got consolations through Alberto Gilardino and Giancarlo Gonzalez.

Guess who’s back?

Second season syndrome is a real thing, just ask Gervinho. The Ivorian forward was Roma’s best player when he moved to Italy alongside coach Rudi Garcia. The Giallorossi won their first 10 games under the Frenchman and Gervinho was on fire. But last season it did not go to plan. Gervinho was in and out of the side, partly due to his absence during the African Cup of Nations, partly due to injuries but also a lack of form. With Mohamed Salah moving to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer it seemed like Gervinho’s time in the Italian capital was coming to an end. But the former Arsenal forward has looked back to his old self this season.

Gervinho was at his very best against Palermo. His pace scared the Rosanero defence and caused them a heap of problems. Gervinho’s raw speed means when he is in form, he has the ability to destroy defences in Serie A, who are not trained to deal with out and out pace. Roma fans will be hoping to see much more of Gervinho this season if he keeps terrorising defenders.
