Malaga
Carlos Kameni – 6.5: Made some crucial stops in both halves to keep his side in the game. His distribution needs improving.
Arthur Boka – 7: The Ivorian was a constant threat going forward and his balls out from the back were dangerous. Picked up a yellow card for a dive late in the second half before being subbed off.
Weligton Oliveira – 6.5: The better of the two centre-halves. Generally coped with everything Villarreal came with but was beaten for pace by Baptistao too many times for his liking.
Marcos Angeleri – 6: Solid but unspectacular.
Roberto Rosales – 6.5: The lesser of the two full-backs. Did not go forward enough to help his team and struggled with Denis Suarez.
Recio – 6.5: Composed in midfield for the first 70 minutes but following the goal, needed to push up to give his team more drive and failed to do so.
Fernando Tissone – 6: Scorer of the own goal. An otherwise par performance from the Argentine.
Duda – 7.5: Malaga’s captain fought for everything and looked most likely to pull his team over the line. His ability to shift the ball to his left foot before whipping in a cross was heavily on display.
Juanpi – 5.5: Ineffective display for the Venezuelan. Struggled to impact the game going forward.
Ricardo Horta – 5: The poorest on the park for Malaga. Did not help Charles up front nor Boka behind him.
Charles Oliveira – 5.5: Offered precious little other than a body up front.
Substitutes
Duje Cop – 6.5: Brought in on 54 minutes and outshone Juanpi in his 35-minute spell.
Adnane Tighadouini – 6: Brought tricks and flicks but little else. Needed more end product.
Juan Carlos – N/A: Came on with only added time remaining.
