The Newcastle Jets picked up a much needed home win in a game which everyone had them as very outside favourites to move up into eighth spot in the league table.

Milos Trifunovic (Newcastle Jets) – Had a slow start to the match, as did many of the Jets and City players for that matter, but managed to turn his performance around in the second half. In the first 45 he was caught offside on a number of occasions but in the period he was able to time his runs more effectively. Held the ball up well when needed and managed to get himself on the score sheet twice to help secure the Jets three valuable points.

Daniel Mullen (Newcaslte Jets) – Mullen was given the difficult task of marking Bruno Fornaroli and for 89 minutes he managed to do so with great aplomb. Fornaroli has been outstanding this season for City but Mullen did fantastic job at keeping the marquee man quiet, forcing him to rush his shots or turn away from the opportunity. Fornaroli did, however, manage to score after Mullen switched off for merely a second which allowed him a free header.

Michael Zullo (Melbourne City) – The young Australian had a fantastic work rate and enthusiasm in this match and was causing the Jets defenders issues throughout the match with some delightful balls whipped into the box. He also tracked back and defended significantly better than last week, making it difficult for the Jets to hit City on the counter.

Honourable Mentions – Leonardo and Mitch Cooper
