Jurgen Klopp appointment could be the beginning of a red crusade

Liverpool nearly won the league two seasons ago under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, but after a disappointing campaign in the 2014-15 season which followed into the start of the 2015-16 season, his sacking was inevitable.

It has been utterly miserable for Liverpool fans in recent times. From falling short of the league title to the 6-1 defeat away to Stoke City at the end of last season, a change needed to be made and that change is only days away.

Many names have been mentioned on the streets of Liverpool over the last few days after Rodgers was told his services were no longer required after the Merseyside Derby, but one in particular.

Time's up: Brendan Rodgers

People always ask Liverpool supporters what attributes they want in a manager and the answer tends to always be very similar. Determined, passionate and drive are the words used to describe a Liverpool fan’s dream manager and the favourite to take the job certainly has all of those.

Jurgen Klopp’s services are all but secured according to many English news outlets and that has the Reds fan base buzzing with excitement and anticipation. There has not been a Liverpool fan base with this much energy and drive since challenging for the league not that long ago.

People in football know Klopp is the perfect fit for the Merseyside giants. When looking at his previous club, Borussia Dortmund, we see a club that is almost identical to Liverpool. A passionate fan base which will support the team through thick and thin.

When Klopp took over Borussia Dortmund, they were in need of a lift and looking for more than being an average side. He managed to win back-to-back Bundesliga titles and take them to a Champions League final with a limited budget. Liverpool have certainly spent over the last few years but not to the extent of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United. When comparing the money spent to others in the Premier League, Klopp will certainly be restricted in that sense, but his ability to spend and spend well has been proven at Borussia Dortmund for a number of years. He has the ability to identify talent that perhaps others cannot and also attract those who are considered ‘big’-name players.

There is a video conversation between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Klopp himself. Not much can be read into it, but Ibrahimovic asked Klopp the question: “So when are you bringing me to Dortmund?”

That is a sign of the respect these top quality footballers have for this man and, who knows, maybe we will see more top quality footballers follow Klopp to Anfield, should his appointment be confirmed officially.

This current Liverpool squad has talent, and it is arguably one of the stronger squads we have seen in recent years, but it needs someone like Klopp to develop it and bring it together. There is no denying the Reds need to improve in the Premier League, but also in Europe.

Under Rodgers, Liverpool were poor in Europe. It is hard to admit that when one remembers all the glorious nights at Anfield when Rafa Benitez was leading Liverpool all over Europe and comfortably beating the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Having taken Dortmund to a Champions League final, Klopp will certainly teach the current group how to approach tough European fixtures and how to maintain a solid performance level in the Premier League.

What has also been notable from rival supporters on social media is how fearful they are becoming of the proposition of Klopp taking charge at Anfield. There is no denying they know he has the potential to begin a red crusade.

With the announcement expected Friday evening Australian time, many Reds will be glued to their Twitter feeds to hear Klopp deliver, as expected, his first of hopefully many press conferences at Liverpool.
