Pundit and former England star Gary Lineker is concerned about the intense workload on Harry Kane’s future development.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward may have ended his recent goal drought over the weekend yet Gary Lineker is still concerned by the strikers risk of burnout.

A total of nine games without a goal for both club and country has sparked the suggestions from the former English star with the U21 European Champions thrust under the microscope.

“I never played in the under-21s, I cut all that out, because I was a late developer so he’s come to the fore a lot earlier in his career than I did,” he said.

“So I didn’t have that workload so young and we’ve seen that that can have an affect on our great strikers.

“But it will affect some and others it won’t. Obviously Rooney got in very young and the sharpness in his game kind of left him a while ago and the same sort of thing happened with Michael Owen.”

After exploding onto the scene, Kane has now gone two seasons without a sustained break. He went on a similar barren run at the beginning of last season before scoring 25 Premier League goals which left Lineker to ponder his initial thoughts.

“So I don’t know whether that [an early workload] was anything to do with it or whether it was just a coincidence or not.”

Tottenham embark on their UEFA Champions League adventure tomorrow hosting Monaco at White Heart Lane with Harry Kane sure to be in the thick of the action.
