It is all coming together for Melbourne Victory defender Jason Geria as the prolific right-back will have the chance to put on the Socceroos jersey next week

Australia take on Tajikistan in Adelaide next Thursday and subsequently Jordan in Sydney the following Tuesday.

Geria had experience for the national side as a youngster playing for the Olyroos, now the 22-year-old is relishing  the chance given by Australia boss Ange Postecoglou and is determined to make it count.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid, to be given that opportunity to play in these two games, it’s something I’m very grateful for, he said.

“I know I have to go there and work hard because of the opportunity. I’m going to focus on training well and hopefully get a chance to play either of those games.”

The speedy defender has experience playing alongside Mark Milligan, who captained the Victory to their 2015 A-League premiership, as well as training and playing under coach Postecoglou at both Brisbane Roar and Victory.

Geria also acknowledged Postecoglou’s philosophy on trying out a mixture of players, also stating Brisbane striker Jamie Maclaren will get his time with his great form.

The 22-year-old is one of the two uncapped players named in the squad along with former Sydney FC defender Alex Gersbach who recently signed a contract with Norwegian side Rosenborg.

“Ange has been a recurring figure in my career, it’s a bit of a coincidence but he’s just a good manager and I was fortunate to play under him in the past and now for the Socceroos,” he said.

“Ange has shown his policies, it doesn’t matter where you play, if you play well consistently then he’ll give you a shot, if he thinks you deserve one.

“It doesn’t just apply to Australia, it applies to everywhere in the world, so I think that’s been proven over the years with the players he’s trialled and the core of the group have been from the A-League and lucky enough I got my shot this time.

“I’m sure people like Jamie Maclaren, playing well and he’ll get his shot in due time.”
