Melbourne City have turned in one of their worst performances of the season, after Newcastle Jets comfortably defeated them 2-1 at Hunter Stadium.
Newcastle were rewarded a questionable spot kick when Jack Clisby was adjudged to have handle the ball when Jason Hoffman struck a fierce left-footed shot.
Milos Trifunovic stepped up and calmly dispatched the ball past a helpless Thomas Sorensen.
On 64 minutes another highly debatable went against City when Jacob Melling was shown a straight red after a foul on Morten Nordstrand, with the referee deciding he was the last man and had a clean route to goal.
Eight minutes later the Jets doubled their advantage, following an inch-perfect pass from Nordstrand that Trifunovic calmly stroked home past Sorensen.
City set up a nervy finale for the remaining 10 minutes when he headed in his 15th goal of the campaign from a lovely Nick Fitzgerald cross.

Broich, Ono, name anyone. I’ll take Fornaroli as best import to play in HAL. Movement, finishing, ability to keep ball quality. #NEWvMCY
