After 157 long strenuous days, football returned to our TV screens or our stadiums if you were lucky enough to attend one of the five games played over the four days this weekend.

On Thursday night it all kicked off at Pirtek Stadium with the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Brisbane Roar and what a beautiful feeling it was to finally have football back.

Goals, excitement, flair. The Central Coast Mariners wore their yellow jerseys with a palm tree to add some flavour to Saturday evening. Brendan Hamill’s attempt at a back-pass to Andrew Redmayne was suicidal to say the least as he sold his keeper way short and gifted Brisbane new boy Jamie Maclaren the first goal of the new season.

Younger players were given opportunities to play and there was some Spanish flavour sprinkled across many of the clubs, with four of those clubs managed by new bosses.
