Central Coast Mariners had the most shots on goal (24), however their opponents Perth Glory had the most on target (10) yet they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat.
Brisbane Roar and Central Coast led the way with three goals each, with Jamie Maclaren and Fabio Ferreira helping themselves to a brace each.
Half of the goals scored on matchday 1 came in the first half-an-hour of play, while there were just two goals scored after the 71 minute mark.
There were 26 yellow cards shown and incidentally two sending-offs for Newcastle Jets captain Nigel Boogard and Melbourne Victory stand-in skipper Leigh Broxham.
