Adelaide United remain winless in the A-League after losing 3-0 to Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

Brandon Borrello, who grew up in the City of Churches, opened the scoring on nine minutes with an incisive finish to expose the Reds static defending. Adelaide should have drawn level in the second-half, but wasted several opportunities and were punished by Jamie Maclaren’s curling effort on 79 minutes. Borrello then put the icing on the cake with seconds remaining, breaking the offside trap to expertly finish past John Hall. Despite Adelaide’s dominance after the interval it proved incidental as coach Guillermo Amor search for an elusive league triumph continues.

Brisbane passing game a sight to behold

The Roar have been synonymous with their brilliant ability to retain possession and the game against United, particularly in the first-half was no exception. The likes of Matt McKay, Corona and Thomas Broich were immaculate on the ball and were able to create triangles to pass their way out of tight situations. In an attacking sense, the trio exchanged passes with a great deal of fluency which caused the Reds defence a catalogue of problems. Broich played a sumptuous ball across the face of goal that enabled Borrello to register his third league goal of the season. Had it not been for a smart save on Jamie Maclaren by John Hall the visitors could have been further behind heading into the break. Although the 3-0 scoreline flattered Brisbane they definitely deserved their win and in the process piled more pressure on the Reds.
