Melbourne City have officially signed midfielder Fernando Brandan to the A-League on a two-year contract.

A statement released by the club earlier today confirms that the Argentine has completed his medical and joined new teammates in preseason preparation – with heavy speculation surrounding a move from Atletico Temperley since last week.

The Salta native will look to bring his attacking flair to the A-League’s glamour side, joining fellow South American Bruno Fornaroli and goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen in the foreign player roles.

The 26-year-old struggled to cement a first team spot in 2015-16 with Atletico Temperley coming off promotion to Argentina’s top flight, yet had registered a total of 87 appearances and 15 goals at the club since 2013. Previously he had been brought up through lower-league sides Rivadavia and Racing de Olavarria.

Having already signed Luke Brattan and Bruce Kamau in this window, the addition of Brandan is shaping the City midfield into a attacking force despite the loss of Aaron Mooy to Europe.

Brandan is expected to feature in tonight’s friendly match against the Melbourne Knights, and will also be available for selection in the FFA Cup Round of 32.
