Harry Kane’s return from injury could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

The striker suffered an ankle injury in Spurs’ clash with Sunderland on 18 September, and it was first feared he would miss up to six to eight weeks, but manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed the latest scans show Kane could return in a matter of weeks.

However, Pochettino was reluctant to put an exact date to the England international’s return.

“Half an hour ago, we received the information about the second scan,” Pochettino told reporters in Moscow.

“It’s much, much better than we expected. We are happy, the scan was vey positive. We’re very, very happy about this news.

“But still we cannot give a time frame of how long it’ll be to recovery.

“Be sure we’re happy because the scan was better than we expected but I am not a doctor — it’s hard to say one, two, three weeks but it’s much, much, much better than we expected.”

Five players did not make the trip to Russia, including Kane, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose through injury. Pochettino offered an update on their progress.

“Eric Dier and Dembele are recovering from minor problems against Sunderland, and Sissoko got concussion during game at Middlesbrough.

“They’re okay but we don’t want to take a risk.

“We’ve got a lot of game ahead and it’s difficult period with them and for the national teams. We’re not taking a risk with them. They’re training well.”
