Celtic’s transfer deadline day entered in disappointment after they failed to land West Bromwich Albion and Scotland midfielder James Morrison.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim the 30-year-old was keen to make the move to Parkhead.

Morrison only signed a new long-term contract with the Midlands club earlier this summer, but has found himself on the outer in recent matches, playing just four minutes of football this season.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has elected not to use the midfielder in recent Premier League matches which only fuelled the speculation.

Celtic gaffer Brendan Rogers was hopeful of adding more Baggies talent to his squad following the acquisition of right-sided full-back Cristian Gamboa earlier in the week.

Since joining the Baggies in 2007, Morrison has made 372 appearances, scoring 41 goals in the process across all competitions.

The midfielder is currently away on national team duties as Scotland prepare for their World Cup qualifier against Malta on 4 September.
