The 2015-16 season was huge for Liverpool. The appointment of Jurgen Klopp brought an element of swagger back, while reaching two cup finals restored the on-field optimism at Anfield.

Forward depth – There is certainly no shortage of potential goalscorers at the club. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Saido Mane is a potent list of both proven Premier League talent, as well as up-and-comers.

Finishing chances has been a huge concern for the Reds, but last season they were significantly unlucky with injuries, Sturridge, Origi and Ings all had lengthy spells on the sidelines. The new season has commenced and Klopp’s has plenty of fit striking options to choose from.

Klopp has signed players who suit his style – The German has signed Mane, Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Georginio Wijnaldum and Marko Grujic. Klopp had a strong interest in Mane before he joined Southampton. The Senegalese will add flair, goals and much needed pace to the squad, and more specifically the forward line.

German goalkeeper, Karius was one of the best players in the Bundesliga last season. 6″ 5″ defender, Matip adds much needed strength to the defence. It will be interesting to see the influence of Klopp’s additions.

Liverpool has the quality – Liverpool demonstrated they are capable of anything. There were a number of matches in the 2015-16 season in which the Reds were outstanding, and while consistency is a hard thing to come by, Klopp is the kind of manager with the capability to instil it..

The domestic league victories against Manchester City (4-1), Chelsea (3-1) and Everton (4-0) were clear highlights, while in the Europa league, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund were eliminated en route to a final loss to Sevilla.

No European commitments –After falling just short of success, Liverpool will be eager to find domestic success in the upcoming season. Liverpool have no European competitions this season so all their attention will be on finishing in the top four at the very least.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Leicester City all have European commitments – and this should improve Liverpool’s top four ambitions. Without European commitments, there will be less opportunities to be in the first team. The players will have to fight hard for their place in the side.
