Brisbane Roar have missed out on the signature of 37-year-old Uruguayan star Diego Forlan, with the former Manchester United star signing for FC Mumbai in the Indian Super League.

Forlan was plying his trade for hometown club Penarol before making the move to India, despite reported links to Brisbane Roar last week. The deal is set to be for just three-months.

“They want to grow football, something that is understandable given the population,” he told EPSN FC.

“Next year they want to extend it to seven months and then to a whole year. For now, though, it is three months (my contract).”

The 2010 World Cup player of the tournament has played for the likes of Manchester United, Villareal, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan in a glittering career spanning over a decade.

Mumbai City is also home to former Perth Glory central midfielder Krisztián Vadócz, who left the club after last season.
