Crystal Palace have escaped from Goodison Park with a point after a 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday night.

For much of the game it was looking like the hosts would take an easy win after showing so much dominance, as Palace were unable to get any real solid possession due to poor passing.

It was the Eagles, however, that took the lead first when Scott Dann rose above Gareth Barry to direct a Jason Puncheon corner into the back of the net in the 77th minute. The lead was short lived though, with the dangerous Romelu Lukaku getting on the end of a Gerard Deulofeu cross that went across the box for an easy tap-in to the Belgian forward.

Despite both sides looking to find a winner the score remained at 1-1. Everton now move on to face Norwich City away from home, while Palace take on Southampton at Selhurst Park.

Everton’s key players shine

Everton best play, in an attacking sense, all revolved around the link between Lukaku, Ross Barkley and Deulofeu. Lukaku was showing some real dominance against the central-defenders for Palace in Dann and Damien Delaney and got some good chances that went close to finding the back of the net, with two shots hitting the crossbar before his equaliser in the second-half.

Barkley was threatening with the set pieces, one of which almost resulted in an own goal being scored by Connor Wickham after the ball was placed in a dangerous area, but fortunately for the Palace striker it hit the cross bar and stayed out. Deulofeu was a constant threat for Everton down the right, sending threatening deliveries into the box and getting the better of Pape Souare to get the cross across the box that set up Lukaku’s goal.

In defence, John Stones once again showed why Chelsea wanted to sign the Englishman. Not just his expertise at the back, but also a willingness to join the attack.
