Palace thankful for defence

The only thing that kept the Eagles in touch was their strong defence and good goalkeeping from Wayne Hennessey. Palace were quite wasteful when going forward during the game, with many of their passes missing easy targets and going straight to the opposition, or out of play enitrely. This meant that Pardew’s men were under constant attack by the Toffees and the likes of Dann, Delaney and Hennessey did quite well, given what they were faced with.

Even when Lukaku appeared to be able to get free of defenders, there were a couple of occasions where at least one of the Eagles would get across to block the ball from getting on goal. Hennessey made some key saves as well, but one that really stood out was in the 66th minute after Lukaku laid the ball off for Tom Cleverley, who took a volley on from outside the box. The Eagles goalkeeper was at full stretch to turn the ball around the post, keeping the scores level at a stage when Everton may have been able to run away with the game.

Despite the issues that Palace gave themselves, they were able to keep their strong away record in tact and have now picked up 13 points out of a possible 21 away from home.
