Manchester United

David de Gea – 8: Immense performance from the United shot-stopper. Singlehandedly ensured the three points.

Marcus Rojo – 6: Struggled against Ward-Prowse early in but kept Mané quiet. Looked like he was perhaps lacking some match fitness.

Daley Blind – 5.0: Identified by Ronald Koeman as the weak link in defence and unfortunately proved himself as such in this game. Failed to handle Pellè on multiple occasions.

Chris Smalling – 5.5: Looked out of sorts at times, out of character from his superb start to the campaign. Didn’t do too much wrong but ultimately gave Pellè too much freedom.

Matteo Darmian – 5.5: Under siege from Tadić early on. Made his exit at half time.

Morgan Schneiderlin – 6: Seemed mostly comfortable on his return to St. Mary’s. Not overly influential but didn’t do much wrong.

Michael Carrick – 6: Lost Mané during the opening goal but grew into the game.

Memphis Depay 6: A better performance from the Dutchman showing a few powerful runs and striking a shot against the post but still registering a patchy showing.

Wayne Rooney – 6: Below his own lofty standards and seeming a little off the pace the United skipper didn’t have much to say on proceedings.

Juan Mata – 7: Looked far more effective once moving inside and was typically effective and composed on the ball.

Anthony Martial – 8: Another exciting performance early in his Red Devils career scoring two good goals and have major impact on the course of this game.

Substitutes

Antonio Valencia – 6: Added a bit more overlapping down the right. Substituted on for Darmian at half time.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – 6: Slowed the game down well in the closing stages. Substituted on for Carrick in the 60th minute.

Paddy McNair – 5: Not particularly effective but had a good run going forward. Substituted on for Marcus Rojo in the 69th minute.
