Perth Glory have announced Royston Griffths as the club’s new captain ahead of the 2016-17 A-League season.

It’s fitting that the 28-year-old WA born and raised skipper will lead the side in their historic 20th anniversary campaign.

The midfielder is delighted to receive the responsibility and is excited by the team’s prospects this season.

“Celebrating the club’s 20th anniversary makes it even more special and I’m proud to be part of a squad with so many hardworking and talented individuals,” he said.

Griffiths is one of 14-home grown players on the squad’s list, taking over from former captain Richard Garcia.

The vice-captain for the upcoming campaign is Andy Keogh, who is relishing the role to support Griffiths.

“I’ve always liked to think that I’ve been a leader during my time at the club and I’m thankful to Kenny Lowe and the club for entrusting me with this responsibility,” Keogh said.

“We’ve got a great squad and we can’t wait to hit the ground running.”

Sam Kerr, 23, retains the captaincy for the Glory’s W-League outfit which kicks off in November.
