An Anthony Martial brace led Manchester United to a win in a free scoring game against a Southampton side with renewed vigour.
The teenage record signing scored his first goal in the 34th minute, after Graziano Pellè had opened the scoring during a period of Southampton dominance, shifting the ball coolly inside the box to open the space to slot past Maarten Stekelenburg. Martial added a second shortly after the break to put the Red Devils in front latching onto a horror back pass from Maya Yoshida then slotting comfortably past an onrushing keeper.
Juan Mata got the goal that sealed the game reacting quickly and showing great composure to bury a ball back of the post from a Memphis Depay shot. There were late scares for the visitors with Pellè getting a goal late to cut the deficit in half but David De Gea came up big in the closing stages to prevent the Saints from pinching a point.
