Chelsea have had a £30 million offer rejected for defender Alessio Romagnoli by the Rossoneri as reported by Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old centre-back joined AC Milan for 25 million Euros at the beginning of last-season and has impressed since his move to the San Sito. Due to a stellar opening campaign, he has been tipped to follow in the foot-steps of many Italian icons and be a mainstay among the Azzurri backline.

Former Juventus manager Antonio Conte has shown heavy interest in many Italian players due to his knowledge of the league, coupled with the possbility of Romagnoli being the man to succeed John Terry as the stronghold in Chelsea’s defence.

Milan have expressed no signs of wanting to sell their premier defender though. Low on centre-backs, the deal seems illogical for the Serie A hopefuls, as Vincenzo Montella looks to build a squad capable of competing in Europe next season.

With Terry and Gary Cahill the only fit centre-backs and Kurt Zouma still on the sidelines at Stamford Bridge, many are wondering where Conte’s next move will come from.

However, the Blues can carry hope that through Milan’s failure in to hold many key players and a poor financial system, an improved offer may tempt the Rossoneri to let him go.
