Squad rotation backfires on Arsene Wenger

In his routine pregame press conference, Wenger claimed that it is easier for him to rotate his squad due to the high quality of players at his disposal. In all, the Frenchman made six changes for the match with David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Mikel Arteta, Oxlade Chamberlain, and Giroud all coming into the starting lineup.

The players however failed to vindicated the manager’s bold decision, all putting in poor performances in what was a rare chance for some to impress. With one eye on the lunchtime kick-off showdown against Chelsea this Saturday, followed by a testing run of fixtures, the decision to rest certain personal against what was seen as a ‘weak’ opponent was justifiable.

The team that was selected tonight should of been good enough to get the job done, instead, it now makes Arsenal’s chances of progressing more complicated, and raises further questions as to whether the depth in the squad is actually adequate to challenge on all front’s.
